Ancient statues

 

We begin to glimpse the Ancient Statue as an end in itself, thanks to the advent of Greek civilization.
The art of this period conceives the Vintage Statues as devoid of any architectural rule and places freedom of movement in them, without stabilizing them.
Style paintings, but ancient painting in general, tend to show a certain illusory air, while the Greek Statue stands before us as a concrete, powerful reality, which is impossible to eliminate.
For that era, the reasons that lead to the creation of a Marble Statue are closely linked to religion or even to magic, for those who believe in it.
Another strong reason for the production of Ancient Statues is of divine origin, seen as a gift from the divinity itself, on which all the fortunes of the community depend.
The Cult Statues in ancient Greece are very small, made with precious materials, olive wood, gold, ivory and even bronze.
The artistic innovation of the Nude Statues leads to a new logistic study of the Marble Statues ; initially we know of Classical Statues leaning on pillars, now the Statues are placed on a pedestal, in the center of a room and perfectly visible at 360°.
After the conception of the Statues with Divine Roles , the spotlights are transferred to the real figures, placing them under the heroic level, representing them in gymnastic places.
With Hellenism, however, the Plaster Statues representing divinities or more generally, Religious Statues , lost their importance and made room for the statues depicting characters in everyday life, which were placed in the garden or used to enrich the room, therefore, the Ancient Statue became an Ornamental Garden Statue .

 

How were Greek statues made?

 

To make small ancient objects, the Greeks used very different materials, such as ivory, bone, gold and silver.
These small utensils were offered in sanctuaries and were equipped with small hooks for hanging.
The metal was used molten, to be handled more easily and for the creation of highly laborious objects.
These Ancient Statues had a base that was fused directly with the statue itself, or feet that matched perfectly inside the holes in the base.
In the numerous Greek finds we can find utensils and vases with decorations distinguishable from all the others, thanks to the presence of bronze and silver.
So, to summarize, in the creation of Objects they preferred the use of silver and bronze, while for the production of jewels and accessories, they preferred the use of gold.
How did they shape it?
Through fusion, engraving, granulation and many other techniques, for the creation of Stone Statues, which are no longer exploited today.
